Abstract
Objective: To determine the impact of vocal hygiene on the quality of voice of madrassa students.
Methodology: This Experimental study was conducted at Riphah International University, from January to April 2022. We randomly recruited 50 students studying at two madrassahs at Raiwind. The sample included either gender, aged 8 to 18 years studying in madrassas for >6 months. PRAAT application was used for evaluation. SPSS 23 was used for data analysis. Multivariate analysis was employed to analyze the difference between pre-intervention, mid-intervention, and post-intervention mean scores for Jitter, Shimmer, and harmonic to noise ratio. p<0.05 was considered as significant.
Results: After following vocal hygiene protocol for 4 and 8 weeks, there was a significant improvement in voice parameters at mid-intervention and post-intervention with a score of 2.88±.435, 2.26±0723, 2.04±.638 for jitter (p=0.000), score of 1.98±0.14, 2.04±0.28, 1.88±0.38 for shimmer (p=0.001) and mean score of 1.98±0.14, 1.76±043, 1.58±0.49 for hormonic to noise ratio (p=0.000).
Conclusion: Vocal hygiene had positive effect on voice quality with significant improvement in jitter, shimmer, and hormonic to noise ratio following the implementation of 4–8-week vocal hygiene program in madrassa students.
