Family communication and marital satisfaction: A mediating role of emotion regulation

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the mediating role of emotion regulation in family communication and marital satisfaction in married men and women.
Methodology: The study sample comprised 174 married men and women with the age range of 21-50 years (Mean 33.695.38). In this cross-sectional research design, purposive sampling technique was used to recruit the sample and given Family Communication Scale, The Couples Satisfaction Index and Emotion Regulation Questionnaire.
Results: There was a significant positive relationship among family communication, cognitive reappraisal and marital satisfaction, Emotion regulation mediated between family communication and the level of satisfaction in marriage.
Conclusion: Healthy and positive interaction within the family and use of cognitive reappraisal in emotion regulation facilitate marital relationship in married couples. These finding can be further helpful in marital and family counselling.
