Abstract
Objective: To determine the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) in the upcoming ten years in the low-socioeconomic population in Karachi, Pakistan.
Methodology: This cross-sectional observational study was conducted at outpatient care-centers and hospitals of Karachi from Feburary to July 2024 and included 320 patients. Diagnosis was confirmed based upon JNC-VIII guideline. After collecting demographic information of patients and essential laboratory reports, data were analyzed by SPSS version 22. Ten years risk of CVD was determined by “Framingham Rise Score” calculator.
Results: The ten years risk of CVD (Male:7.56%; Female:1.03%); mean age in years of patients (Male:49.30; Female:49.67), mean of total-cholesterol (Male:193.79mg/dL; Female:190.73mg/dL), mean of HDL (Male:49.69mg/dL; Female:49.02mg/dL), mean systolic-blood-pressure (Male:129.38mmHg; Female:125.25mmHg). Majority of participants having high risk of CVD in next ten years suffered from pre-hypertension blood-pressure range of 120-130 mmHg systolic, total-cholesterol <200 mg/dL and high-density-lipoprotein 41-59 mg/dL.
Conclusion: The ten years risk of CVD is high in low socioeconomic male population of Karachi compared to female. Therefore, recommendations of guidelines should be followed with stringent criteria to reduce risk in population.

Key words: Cardiovascular, hypertension, holesterol, HDL, Low socioeconomic, Framingham Rise Score.
