Abstract
Objective: To explore the anti-cancer potential of eugenol (4-allyl-2-methoxyphenol) on HeLa (Henrietta Lacks) human cervical cancer cell line.
Methodology: This In-vitro lab study worked on translating lab results into IC50 (half-maximal inhibitory concentration) values which depended on MTT assay-based outcomes [3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl tetrazolium bromide]. It is used for evaluating eugenol’s concentrations focused effects on HeLa cell lines while performing gene expression studies through RT-qPCR (Quantitative Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction) analysis of apoptotic mediator genes (Intrinsic Biomarkers Caspases).
Results: Evaluation using IC50 revealed eugenol at 14.1 uM effectively induced pro-apoptotic biomarkers Caspase-3 and Caspase-9 in HeLa cells at relative gene expression levels of 12.9 and 12.3.
Conclusion: Our data confirmed robust pro-apoptotic anti-cancer properties of eugenol against HeLa cell lines. Future investigations need to discover the main pathways through which eugenol fights cancer in HeLa cell lines.

Key words: Eugenol, HeLa, eugenol, pro-apoptotic potential, anti-cancer activity.
