Public knowledge and practicing behavior regarding use of antibiotics; A cross sectional study from Lahore, Pakistan

Abstract
Objective: To explore the status of knowledge and practicing behavior among general population of Lahore regarding antibiotics use.
Methodology: A community based cross-sectional survey was performed on total of 338 participants from 1st December 2017 to 30th January 2018 in Lahore, Pakistan by using a standardized and structured questionnaire.
Results: The studied population had moderate knowledge (55.3%) and poor practicing behavior (71.9%) of antibiotics use. About 54.7% were unaware of the complications, 51% was ignorant to the adverse outcomes related to antibiotics use, 66.7% were practicing antibiotics in cold and throat infections and 54% were using them on the recommendations of friends or relatives.
Conclusion: The outcome of this study will be supportive in designing programs that will be of help in creating relevant awareness about antibiotics rational use.
