Abstract
Objective: To investigate Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) associated pathologies in term of decreased BDNF levels.
Methodology: Serum BDNF levels were quantified using Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) from collected serum and follicular fluid samples from 100 PCOS patients and 60 healthy women as control.
Result: BDNF both in the serum (08 ng/ml) and in the follicular fluid (10ng/ml) of PCOS patients was lower in comparison to the control group (serum 25ng/ml, Follicular 17ng/ml) with statistical significance (p<0.001). Hypo-BDNF state was significantly negative in follicular fluid as compared to serum.
Conclusion: Chronic reduced BDNF levels in women with PCOS suggest that it can be used as a biomarker for disease severity and treatment efficacy. Low levels of BDNF may be in a causal relation to neuroendocrine and metabolic disturbances in PCOS.

Key words: BDNF, Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, metabolic disorder, multi-system disorder.
