Comparison of stone clearance in upper ureteric stone with use of cone versus dormia basket during semirigid ureteroscopy with pneumatic lithoclast

Abstract
Objective: To compare the stone clearance in cone versus Dormia basket during semirigid ureterorenoscopy with pneumatic lithoclast in a patient with upper ureteric stone of up to one cm.
Methodology: This randomized controlled trial was conducted at the Urology department, Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University, Larkana Pakistan, from 5th September 2022 to 4th March 2023. Informed consent was taken from all the patients. Baseline demographic and clinical details were recorded. Under general anesthesia, patients underwent ureterorenoscopy using 9Fr/11Fr semirigid ureteroscope and Swiss pneumatic lithoclast for stone disintegration. A total of 200 patients were randomly divided into two groups with 100 in each group; Group A (Dormia basket) and Group B (stone cone).
Results: The stone clearance was noted in 90 (90.0%) in A group whereas 82 (82.0%) in B group (p=0.103).
Conclusion: Both the stone cone and Dormia basket techniques were equally effective for clearance of stones in patients with upper ureteric stones of up to one cm.
