Abstract
Objective: To determine the relationship of highly sensitive C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), body mass index, smoking and physical activity with cardiopulmonary endurance in patients with coronary artery disease.
Methodology: This cross-sectional study was conducted at Khyber Teaching Hospital, Peshawar from February to June 2022. The sample size for the study was 149 and a non-probability purposive sampling technique was used. Inclusion criteria were both gender having age 50-65 years, diagnosed cases of coronary artery disease. Exclusion criteria were acute systemic illness, any recent thoracic or abdominal surgery. Following tools were used: 6 minutes’ walk test, laboratory investigation for serum CRP and IPAQ Questionnaire. Chi square test was used to determine the association between the variables. Correlational analysis was computed to determine the correlation between the variables.
Results: Mean age of participants was 56.97±4.39 years and mean BMI was 28.09+2.38 kg/m2. Out of 149 participants, 96 (64.4%) were males and 53 (35.6%) females. For correlation between CRP and BMI r value was 0.25 and statistically significant predictor of CRP at 0.05 after controlling Vo2max in regression model.
Conclusion: BMI may be a strong predictor of CRP level than vo2 max.

Key words: Aerobic capacity, body mass index, coronary artery disease, C-reactive protein, physical activity.
