Life Satisfaction and Anxiety in the time of COVID-19 pandemic among general public

Abstract
Objective: To study frequency of anxiety and life satisfaction and to determine the relationship between anxiety of and life satisfaction during the COVID-19 pandemic among general public.
Methodology: This study included 300 general public individuals (143 women and 157 men) taken from Islamabad with the help of purposive sampling technique. Demographic sheet, Hamilton Anxiety scale and the Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS) were administered. Data were analyzed on SPSS 23, with descriptive statistic, t test and Pearson product moment coefficient of correlation.
Results: We found that the 13.3% individual had mild anxiety, 14% moderate anxiety, 13% moderate to severe anxiety and 59.7% had severe level of anxiety. In life satisfaction, 4.0% were extremely satisfied, 12% satisfied or slightly satisfied 12.3%, neutral 2.3% extremely dissatisfied 2.3% and dissatisfied 28.7% and slightly dissatisfied 36.3%. Life Satisfaction had significant negative relationship with anxiety (r=-.501**). Significant gender difference in the level of anxiety and life satisfaction were found.
Conclusion: There was high prevalent of anxiety and low level of life satisfaction in general public. There was a strong negative relationship between anxiety and life satisfaction. Anxiety managing techniques should be used for general public, because reduction in anxiety can enhance life satisfaction.
