Frequency of lower limb joint injuries in athletes

Abstract
Objective: To determine the frequency of commonly involved injuries of lower limb in athletes.
Methodology: This cross-sectional survey was conducted from February 2018 to July 2018 and included 106 athletes who suffered injuries from Islamabad sports complex who participated in 6 different types of sports. We used three standardized scales Foot and Ankle Outcome Score (FAOS), Knee injury and Osteoarthritis outcome score (KOOS), Hip dysfunction and Osteoarthritis Outcome score (HOOS). The data were analyzed by SPSS version 21.
Results: Out of 106 athletes, 63(59.4%) were male and 43(40.6%) female. Most common injuries were of knee joint in 49(46.2%), ankle joint in 42(39.6%) and hip joint in 15(14.2%) athletes. Injuries occurred in Taekwondo in 31(29.2%), in Judo in 17(16%), in athletics in 10(9.4%), in football in 15(14.2%), in Nijitsu in 15(14.2%) and in volleyball in 18(17%) athletes.
Conclusion: The frequency of knee joint injury is more common. These injuries are more frequent in males. Injuries were more prevalent in Taekawando players. There was no significant limitation in activities of daily living.
