Physical activity and Bone Mineral Density in premenopausal women: A narrative review of exercise-based strategies for osteoporosis prevention and healthy ageing

Abstract
Objective: To find the impact of different types of physical activities on achieving peak bone mineral density (BMD) in premenopausal women to prevent osteoporosis in later stages of life.
Methodology: This review article comprises of review of total 30 published studies which include RCTs in which participants were divided into groups of 2,3,4, or 6, narrative reviews, Systematic reviews, and meta-analyses.
Results: Physical activity comprising of either aerobic exercises or impact or high-impact exercises/resistance training with the incorporation of advanced techniques can increase BMD.
Conclusion: Physical activities, if performed by women around their menopausal stage, increase BMD that can ultimately prevent their bones from becoming osteoporotic. However, the availability of community-based support and programs with inclusion of advanced techniques has a positive impact on physical activity levels and ultimately bone health.
