Physician stress at the workplace in Pakistan: An emerging crisis demanding systemic action

Abdul Wahab Yousafzai.

Abstract
Doctors, Physicians in particular, have always been the center of every healthcare system, playing a key role as the caregivers, the decision makers, the educators, as well as the advocates for patient welfare. It is these same physicians who themselves face the dilemma of meeting the demands of modern medical practice that increasingly exposes them to chronic workload stressors and balancing their personal well-being and professional effectiveness. There has been growing evidence that suggests that physician burnout and workplace stress are highly prevalent among the demographic of Pakistan, and require urgent attention from healthcare institutions, policymakers and professional organizations

Key words: Stress, doctors, Pakistan.
