Impact of birth order on the well being of medical and dental students of Type-D personality

Abstract
Objectives: To identify the type-D personality students and to explore the birth orders and examine impact of birth order on the well being of medical and dental students through quantitative method.
Methodology: Firstly, three medical colleges (Rawalpindi Medical College, Islamabad Medical and Dental College and Yusra Medical and Dental College) were selected by utilizing random sampling technique. Afterwards, second and third year students (150 medical and 150 Dental) with age range 18-21 years were chosen with random technique. Birth order self developed questionnaire, Type-D personality scale and Edinburgh Warwick mental wellbeing scale were utilized to discover birth orders, screen for Type-D personality students and to examine their well being. Regression and t-test were applied for data analysis.
Results: Birth order had some impact on most of the aspects of wellbeing of medical and dental students of type-D personality. Furthermore, first-born children scored higher on well being while middle born scored low as compared to the counterpart.
Conclusion: Birth order of the students influenced their personalities, as there is more or less impact of birth order on the wellbeing of students. Moreover, for in depth study, research may be done on effects of birth-order on family design so that every aspect may be taken into consideration.
