Abstract
Objective: To investigate peptic ulcer incidence associated with Helicobacter pylori in medical unit-II civil hospital, Sukkur.
Methodology: This cross-sectional study was conducted in the Departments of Medicine and Gastroenterology, Civil Hospital, Sukkur, from October 2023 to April 2024. Participants were interviewed using a pre-tested questionnaire and biopsy specimens were collected from the antrum and ulcer margin. These samples were analyzed using the Rapid Urease Test (RUT) and histopathological examination with Giemsa stain.
Results: A total of 100 patients with upper gastrointestinal symptoms underwent endoscopy, and biopsy samples were collected. Histopathology detected H. pylori in 70 patients (70%), while RUT identified 63 positive cases (63%). Peptic ulcers were predominantly observed among H. pylori-positive patients, occurring in 39 cases (61.90%) identified by RUT and 45 cases (64.29%) by histopathology.
Conclusion: Our study confirms peptic ulcer incidence associated with H. pylori, highlighting the significance of prompt finding and eradication.

Key words: Peptic ulcer, rapid urease test, histopathology, Helicobacter pylori.
