Diagnostic screening of the dentognathic apparatus in children with dentognathic anomalies and deformities, accompanied by anatomical and functional disorders of the tongue

Abstract
Objective: To conduct an in-depth analysis and improve the diagnostic apparatus for children with dentognathic anomalies and deformities accompanied by anatomical and functional tongue disorders.
Methodology: Algorithms of examination of a patient with dentognathic anomalies and deformities, accompanied by anatomical and functional disorders of the tongue, were performed. The "Patient examination record for tongue pathology and dentognathic anomalies" and "Speech therapy examination record for tongue pathology and dentognathic anomalies" were developed and implemented. A pilot examination was conducted to refine the format and content and incorporate additional information.
Results: The diagnostic measures consist of combined sections: anamnestic data, objective extraoral and intraoral clinical examination, additional methods, and functional tests. The algorithms include a detailed tongue examination to improve diagnostic accuracy.
Conclusion: The proposed algorithms of diagnostic measures, reflected in the examination records, are recommended for use when planning orthodontic treatment. This will allow for a more in-depth analysis of the tongue's influence on the formation of dentognathic anomalies and deformities. The application of anthropometric and radiographic diagnostic methods allows for an assessment of changes in maxillary and mandibular dimensions at the dental and skeletal levels throughout orthodontic treatment.
