Abstract
Objective: To determine the association of cardiac dysfunction on echocardiography with metabolic dysfunction associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD).
Methodology: This cross-sectional study was done at Pakistan Railway Hospital from 1st July to 31st December 2024 at the departments of medicine and cardiology. It included 100 patients with MASLD. Fatty liver was diagnosed on abdominal ultrasound. Patient’s demographic data, relevant laboratory finding, and echocardiographic details were retrieved from electronic medical record of hospital. The data were analyzed using SPSS 24.
Results: Out of 100 patients, 50% had diastolic dysfunction, 15% systolic dysfunction and 10% had both systolic and diastolic dysfunction. Grade I diastolic dysfunction was present in 39% and grade 2 diastolic dysfunction was found in 11% patients. Mild systolic dysfunction was seen in 4%, moderate in 8% and severe in 3% cases. Valvular heart disease was seen 16%, while 9% had normal echocardiographic findings.
Conclusion: MASLD is significantly associated with structural and functional cardiac dysfunction. Comprehensive evaluation involving echocardiography and metabolic screening with timely management will improve cardiovascular outcome.

Key words: Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease, echocardiography, metabolic syndrome, left ventricular diastolic dysfunction.
