Impact of family-centered empowerment model on self-efficacy and HbA1c levels in Type 2 diabetes mellitus

Abstract
Objective: To analyze the effect of the Family-Centered Empowerment Model on self-efficacy in type 2 diabetes mellitus.
Methodology: The study design was one group pre-test post-test design. The sample size consisted of 37 respondents with type 2 diabetes mellitus. The family-centered empowerment model intervention was conducted once per week for four weeks followed by telephone monitoring. Glycemic control was evaluated with HbA1c, and self-efficacy was evaluated by Diabetes Management Self-Efficacy scale. The data were analyzed using Wilcoxon test.
Results: There was a statistically significant increase in self-efficacy (p<0.001), with moderate effect size (r=0.55) and significant decrease in HbA1c levels (p=0.007) with small effect size (r=0.43).
Conclusion: The family-centred empowerment model proved effective in enhancing self-efficacy. Nurses can effectively utilize family-centred empowerment model to improve diabetes management.
