Abstract
Objective: To assess the adherence to medication among elderly people with their socio-demographic factors.
Methodology: This cross-sectional study was conducted in the medical OPD of PNS Shifa Hospital, Karachi. The data were collected from patients aged 60 plus from March to August 2024 with chronic medical conditions. It was evaluated through the SEAMS Scale and Morisky’s Scale. The data were analyzed through descriptive and inferential statistics (chi-square test). p<0.05 was considered statistically significant.
Results: The low medication adherence was significantly associated with factors like forgetfulness, stopping medication when feeling better, and perceiving medication as a hassle. High adherence correlated with higher education, employment, and consistent medication routines despite travel or symptom control.
Conclusion: Higher education and employment positively influence medication adherence among the elderly, while being divorced or separated correlates with lower adherence.

Key words: Adherence, medication, elderly people.
