Abstract
Objective: To compare the efficacy of a workshop-based approach to teaching gynecology and obstetrics with a workplace-based approach to teaching written communication skills.
Methodology: This quasi-experimental study was done at department of Gynecology & Obstetrics, Islamic International Medical College, Rawalpindi from 27th January 2022 to 26th January 2023. A total of 68 fourth year MBBS students took part, with 34 individuals in each of the two groups. Students in Group A were instructed in effective written communication via the use of reflective portfolios, while those in Group B participated in an engaging workshop setting. Pre and post-test were taken in the form of SAQs. Perceptions of students were collected. All the data was analyzed on SPSS 20.
Results: Out of 68 participants, there were 38 male (56%) and 30(44%) females. Mean pretest score for Group A was 3.51 with SD 0.51. Posttest mean score was 8.75±0.39 (p<0.000). For group B, the mean pre-test score was 3.04±0.69 and Post-test mean score was 7.50±0.30 (p< 0.000). Ninety four percent of students in Group A and 88% in group B agreed that the intervention enhanced their knowledge about written communication skills.
