Sarcopenic obesity is the upcoming under recognized pandemic for senior citizens; prevention and reversal with a new insight

Abstract
Objective: To assess the sarcopenic obesity for senior citizens with prevention and reversal.
Methodology: This observational prospective cross-sectional study done with convenient sampling technique on the patients presenting to any OPD including allied specialties who were either looking obese or have a protuberant belly over 60 years. Eligibility was assessed for obesity on BMI criteria, (BMI≥25 kg/m2 is recommended as cut of value for the Asian population).
Result: Out of 418 participants, 201 were males and 217 females above 60 years patients who were obese and were further assessed for ability to perform 6 different tasks.
Conclusion: Early recognition and adherence to preventive/rehabilitative interventions by altering sedentary behavior and adopting a range of activities including resistance exercise for 20 to 30 minutes, 2-3 times a week with ensuring a balanced diet with adequate proteins can prevent sarcopenic obesity.
