Role of socio-cultural institutions commencing health problems in natural disasters: A study from Malang, Lumajang and Bojonegoro regency of Indonesia

Abstract
Objective: To investigates the role of local socio-cultural institutions in addressing health problems arising from natural disasters.
Methodology: The study utilized quantitative research methods to investigate and identify health problems during disasters. The primary data collection activities were was concentrated in three locations namely: Malang Regency, Lumajang Regency and Bojonegoro Regency of Indonesia. The data were obtained by conducting direct interviews with families (150 respondents) who had experienced natural disasters such as floods, landslides, earthquakes, cold lava, typhoons, and whirlwinds.
Results: Most of the respondents were facing multiple health issues in post disasters. Among others, only children were more affected because of safety measures. The data showed that the local socio-cultural institutions led by volunteers played a dynamic role in health awareness.
Conclusion: In Indonesia, the impact of natural disaster on public health is profound, necessitating prompt and effective responses. The study underscores the pivotal role of local socio-cultural institutions in addressing health problems aimed at such crises.
