Caregivers' knowledge and attitude toward the preventive measures of sickle cell crisis related to their socio-demographic characteristics

Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the variance in caregivers' knowledge and attitude toward sickle cell crisis preventive measures related to their socio-demographic characteristics.
Methodology: This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted in the Sickle cell outpatient clinic of Gaafar Ibnauf Children Specialized Hospital, Khartoum, Sudan, with a random sample of 286 caregivers who attended the referral clinic during the study period. Data were collected using a pre-structured investigator-filled questionnaire. One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to analyze data.
Results: The vast majority of participants were females of medium socio-economic status with intermediate educational levels. Almost all of them were not employed. The socio-demographic characteristics did not affect caregivers' knowledge and attitude toward the preventive measures of sickle cell crisis.
Conclusion: The socio-demographic characteristics did not affect caregivers' knowledge and attitude toward the preventive measures of sickle cell crisis.
