Prevalence of thumb pain in physical therapists practicing spinal manipulative therapy

Abstract
Objective: To determine prevalence of thumb pain in physiotherapists due to the performance of spinal manipulative techniques in spinal manual therapists and also for knowing various management strategies selected for avoiding thumb pain.
Methodology: In this cross sectional study data was collected from 216 physical therapists who were working in government and private sector in Lahore city.
Results: Out of 105 respondents with thumb pain, more had symptoms on IP and CMC joints and pain lasted for 0-1 week.
Conclusion: Thumb pain prevalence is high among spinal manual therapists due to inappropriate selection of techniques for example central and unilateral techniques which cause thumb pain Most effected site is IP joint, then CMP joint and CMC joint of thumb.
