Development and psychometric properties of Conflict Management Scale for Adolescents

Abstract
Objective: To develop an Adolescentís Conflict Management Scale (ACMS) in Urdu language and to estimate psychometric properties of the indigenously developed scale.
Methodology: This cross sectional analytical study was used carried out from February 2017 to August 2017. The initial pool of items generated with 80 statements after conducting interviews with 20 adolescents about conflicts. For development and standardization, 210 adolescent students of ages 12 to 19 years were randomly selected from various educational Institutions of Gujrat, Pakistan. The data collected through interviews and questionnaire. The data analysis was done using exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, reliability and correlation.
Results: After exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, 32 items were retained with five well-defined factor structure of conflict management scale i.e. integrating/collaborating, accommodating/obliging, avoiding, compromising and competing/dominating. The ACMA demonstrated good psychometric properties with high level of internal consistency and reliability (.798), test retest (.862) and split half (.751) reliability at 0.01 level of significance.
Conclusion: An indigenous conflict management scale of adolescents had been originated with 32 items. It can be used for measuring the conflict management ability of adolescents.
