Abstract Objectives: This study aimed to explore the effect of four aspects of parental behaviors viz. parental Aggression, positive parenting, home learning environment, emotional support, and their level of education on classroom bullying and to compare the bullying victimization in public and private sector schools.
Methodology: This study was conducted in high schools at secondary level in three districts viz. Abbotabad, Haripur, and Mansehra of Hazara Division, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. Data were collected from October, 2013 to March, 2014. The study included 1438 of Grade 10 students. Two questionnaires were used to collect data. The first questionnaire was about parental behaviors while the second questionnaire was about bullying. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 20.
Results: On the average, parental behavior (3.92+0.54) remained high and positive. Further, parental aggression (β=0.427, t=26.89, α=0.000) was significant positive predictor of classroom bullying whereas positive parenting (β= -0.093, t= -2.72, α=0.007) was significant negative predictor of classroom bullying. Additionally, students studying in public sector schools were more victims of bullying as compared to private school students (t= -5.07, α=0.000).
Conclusions: Bullying problem is greater generally and specifically in public schools. Too aggressive parents tend to have children who are at a greater risk of being bullied while emotional support, coupled with home environment
