Frequency of intrauterine death in prolonged pregnancy

Abstract
Objective: To determine the frequency of intrauterine death in prolonged pregnancy.
Methodology: this descriptive study was carried out at The Obstetrics and Gynecology Department, Military Hospital and Combined Military Hospital, Rawalpindi, Pakistan for 18 months. 100 pregnant patients with gestational length of 294 days or more, sure of their last menstrual period date or with early ultrasound, were included in the study. Data were collected from the patients using proforma, which was developed in the light of objective and variables. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 17.
Results: The frequency of intrauterine death in prolonged pregnancy was found to be 5%.
Conclusion: The frequency of prolonged pregnancy was found to be 5%. Majority of women deliver vaginally, but the rate of maternal and fetal complications increases with increasing gestational age.
